Kubb is a game of skill with strategic elements. It symbolizes a battle in which two rival groups fight for their king. It has been played in its current form since around 1990 and is particularly popular in Sweden and Norway, but is also not uncommon in German-speaking countries.
Before the game begins, two teams are formed, each consisting of 1 to 6 people.
The traditional playing field size is 5 by 8 meters. However, this size can be freely chosen depending on the players' abilities. The area can be marked out with boundary blocks. Kubb can be played on all types of surfaces, such as grass, sand, snow, or solid surfaces.
Five Kubbs, spaced approximately one meter apart, form the baseline on each side. The king stands in the center of the playing field.
The two teams position themselves opposite each other on either side behind their respective baseline, which is formed by the set-up Kubbs (baseline or base Kubbs).
A game consists of several rounds. The team that starts the first round is determined by drawing lots. After that, the right to throw first alternates for each round.
